About this research topic
The Research Network on Economic Experiments for the Common Agricultural Policy (REECAP) is an EU-wide network founded in 2017. The network builds on the potential of improving our understanding of agricultural and food policies using economic experiments identified by Colen et al. (2016), and fosters the implementation of such methods to real life policy problems. It aims at bringing together researchers, experts and policy-makers interested in the use of economic experimental approaches to evaluate and improve the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This special issue will include a selection of the papers presented at its 6th annual workshop that will take place in Córdoba (Spain) from 24th to 26th of September of 2024.
The workshop welcomes contributions displaying how experimental approaches (lab and field experiments, discrete choice experiments, randomized controlled trials) can be mobilized to improve ex-ante and ex-post evaluation of CAP-related measures. While the workshop is open to a broad range of contributions, even if they have not the format of a publishable paper, only full papers will be eligible for submission to the special issue. Following the classification of El Benni et al. (2023) regarding evidence provision for better agricultural policies we expect to compile representative case studies of ex-ante evaluation of policies based on economic experiments and ex-post evaluations based on quasi-experiments. We welcome presentation of path-breaking ideas to improve experimental approaches, illustrations of successes and failures of policy evaluation in the field of agriculture and environment, and illustrations of the complementarity of evaluation tools. In addition, systematic reviews and meta-analysis of how experimental methods have been used to help design agricultural and food policies are also welcome.
If interested in being eligible for this Special Issue, authors are invited to submit their proposals to the REECAP Workshop signalling their interest. Selected papers will then be invited to submit their full papers via the SJAR manuscript handling system by the topic editors.

Research topics
Applications of experimental methods to agricultural and agri-environmental themes: laboratory, field, lab-in-the-field, randomized controlled trials (RCT), discrete choice experiments (DCE); quasi-experimental work in the field of agricultural economics and agri-environmental policy and agri-food business economics (natural experiments, discontinuity regressions) with clear links to policy questions; work using behavioral insights or economic psychology to improve food, agricultural, and agri-environmental policies.
Submission deadline
Submissions eligible for this special issue should have been presented at the 2024 REECAP Workshop, which will take place at the University of Córdoba, Spain, from September 24th to 26th.
