Resistance of pepper germplasm to Phytophthora capsici isolates collected in Northwest Spain
Abstract
One single pathotype (race 0) was identified among eight tested isolates of Phytophthora capsici (Leonian) collected in Northwest Spain, after inoculation tests using pepper cultivars of different origin, including the well known reference resistant cultivar Serrano Criollo de Morelos 334. Complete resistance to P. capsici was not found after the inoculation of 23 local genotypes of Capsicum annuum with three different isolates of this oomycete, collected in northwest Spain. However significant differences in virulence were found for the three P. capsici isolates inoculated into the local pepper germplasm, using disease data based on results of genotype-isolate interactions. Virulence test as well as breeding methods for resistance to the pathogen are also discussed.Downloads
